Upside Down newsletter #2
"Huge Price Down Underway & Wax On Tap Record fair this Sunday 6th (1pm-7pm)"
Welcome to the Upside Down Records newsletter.
First of all, some of you are here because we migrated your subscription from Mailchimp to Substack. The reasons are too long to bother with here, but we hope you won’t mind and the fact is that this platform will help us keep in touch with you better and more often.
So let’s start with the good news :
André and Matt are both back at work and that means I am free to get back into my van and go fish some records around the land! I did just that yesterday with a 90’s techno/rave catch in Oxford and another in St Albans, this time an audiophile modern pop/rock collection. This just adds to the thousand of records we still have yet to put out, so don’t worry about a thing, we are stocked up for many moons to come!
And since the aforementioned André and Matt both had a good break, they are currently working as fast as they can to do a shop wide price down. What that means is that from this evening onwards, there is going to be some serious bargains to be found. Previously reduced titles get reduced again and titles that have been in the racks for 3 months see their price slashed.
Meanwhile, I am prepping the stock for our Sunday stall at the Pacific Tavern record fair (AKA the cleverly named “wax on tap”), for which we were nicely invited to participate by Tom
. The venue is a great wide space in Surrey Quays and you can get great grill food as well as top cocktails/beers/wine etc.I will be taking there a wide mixture of modern and classic rock/pop/soul/reggae and a selection of classic house/techno/IDM. These titles have not been out in the shop yet, so if you feel like it, it’s possible to visit both the shop and the record fair!!
WE NOW HAVE E-GIFT CARDS AVAILABLE STRAIGHT FROM OUR WEBSITE! It could not be simplier to get your dearest and nearest a music gift while supporting your local independent record store! Buy for an individual, or pool money from multiple contributors for one recipient.

Last week we had a our first Thursday evening live music instore with the wonderful Cass Begg and her Third Wheel, and it really was a great success so we will start booking more of these gigs and hopefully we are going to discover many upcoming local artists in the process!
If you are a musician looking for small space to perform, get in touch and let’s see what we can do. We’re really looking for intimate acoustic performances or abstract/experimental electronic, we definitely cannot have a drum kit in the space we have.
Last but not least : we are super excited to have acquired a cassette rack and we’re hoping to soon have your/your band’s mixtape in it. We’re going to buy a very cool vintage cassette deck for people to listen to them and hopefully many local bands will find a new audience here.
And now the bad news : well, no such thing as bad news here you can delight in this obscure hollywood new wave classic instead : Moon Martin "bad news" :-)
Thanks for reading and see you soon!!
